MARINE CORPS LOGISTICS BLDG

NAVFAC SE | Albany, GA

GM HILL Engineering provided Structural Engineering services for the NAVFAC SE Marine Corps Logistics Building 3700 in Albany, GA.  In addition to the structural engineering for the project, architectural staff from GM HILL was involved in the architectural design and selection of the design materials and the overall aesthetics and performed QA/QC.  The project was a vestibule renovation which included designing and providing framing plans, associated sections and details for the new building components. The new vestibule area was designed to connect the existing front façade wall back to the main building structure.  The design concept provided a structural steel frame for the attachment of a pre-engineered Kalwall glass curtain wall system.

The scope of the work was to enclose and condition the area within the existing brick veneered entry portal element and to utilize the new space as an entry vestibule so that visitors to the building can get out of the weather prior to admittance to the secured spaces of the building. The design intent was to utilize as few building systems as possible to simplify and minimize costs due to the small scale of the addition. The scope of the structural work is to enclose and condition the area within the existing brick veneered entry portal element.  The roof and sidewall enclosures consist of an insulated translucent fiberglass panel roof and wall system (Kalwall) designed by a specialty engineer.  The primary structural system used in the design to support the Kalwall system consists of structural steel beams and structural steel moment frames supported on new concrete spread foundations. The new ATFP compliant aluminum storefront framing system at the main entrance is supported by structural steel framing supported by the new moment frame system.
