INSTALL LIGHTNING PROTECTION SYSTEM AT 6 FACILITIES
Eglin Air Force Base | Eglin AFB, FL
GM Hill was selected by the Air Force to upgrade lightning protection systems at 6 facilities located within Eglin Air Force Base. The project was considered mission critical, as the facilities housed a wide variety of specialized electronic equipment. The work performed included the addition of new air terminals on various buildings. GM HILL provided additional structural design services for three of the buildings prior to equipment installation. New concrete and wood poles (60’-90’ in height) were designed and installed for pole mounted air terminals. Additionally, GM HILL oversaw the installation of over a mile of counterpoise, with ground rods driven to 60’ deep; cadwelds to connect ground rods and counterpoise; and down-lead cables. New surge protectors were also installed at the main electrical panels and fire alarm panels for each location. Proactive coordination was critical to the success of this project, and GM HILL carefully managed each aspect of the work to minimize overlap with bombing range activities.
