Hanscom Airforce Base, Hanscom AFB, MA

14,500 SF

As the design-build prime contractor, GM HILL performed 100% of the design and engineering services and managed the construction for the U.S. Air Force design-build project to replace the 14,500 SF EPDM roof on the Central Steam Plant, Building 1201 at Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts. The scope of work included replacement of the entire roof, analysis of spalled concrete roof decking and development of appropriate repair approach, analysis of underlying structural steel system to ensure structural integrity, engineering calculations for cutting a new doorway into existing exterior wall for new roof access point, and design of new galvanized exterior stairways for roof access on multiple levels. GM HILL  The team designed a unique scaffolding system hung from the existing roof steel in lieu of providing a traditional floor to ceiling scaffolding which kept the floor areas clear for continuous operation of the facility.  This design-build project was awarded on a firm-fixed-price basis and was completed two months ahead of schedule.
