ROCLA TIE PLANT
Rocla Concrete Tie, Inc. | Fort Pierce, FL
Industrial Warehouse, 20,000 SF
G.M. Hill Engineering provided structural engineering services for a new, 20,000 SF industrial manufacturing facility on 7.18 acres for Rocla Concrete Tie, Inc. (“Rocla”), the largest supplier of pre-stressed concrete ties to North America’s freight and transit railroads. The design of the facility was based on prefabricated metal buildings bearing on a shallow concrete monolithic foundation system. An 8” concrete slab on grade was designed to accommodate forklifts, pallets, storage, overhead cranes and jib cranes. Concrete masonry walls and metal panels were incorporated into the design as the aesthetic façade. Silos and large bins were designed for raw material storage. Florida East Coast railroad constructed a separate rail spur to the site, specifically for the limited transport of materials into and export/shipping out of the final product.
