At Fisheating Creek Campground in Florida, frequent flooding caused by storm events led to recurring damage to existing structures. GMHILL, as Designer of Record, created the 2020 AIA Florida Design Award-winning, flood-resilient cabin prototype that embraces the natural environment. The cabin’s innovative amphibious design allows it to float during floods, rising with water levels to prevent damage while minimizing environmental impact. Built with ADA accessibility in mind, the cabin blends seamlessly into its surroundings, using durable materials and sustainable design practices. This project is a model for future flood-resistant structures, aligning with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission’s mission to protect natural resources.
